Adaptive SAT Allocation for TACS

In this thesis, the performance of a suggested algorithms
for slow adaptive channel allocation is evaluated.
The algorithm is studied regarding the adaptive
allocation of Supervisory Audio Tones, SAT, in the cellular
system TACS.
The objective is to make an automatic channel allocation
concept possible for a TACS mobile communication system,
which would facilitate the procedure of frequency
planning.
In order to analyze the behavior and conditions of the
adaptive SAT allocation,
the handoff procedure has been studied with simulations.
The adaptive SAT allocation has been evalued against
systems using fixed plans of SAT based on both very good
and random allocations of SAT.
From the results, it can be concluded that the suggested
algorithm for slow adaptive channel allocation should not
be applied to the allocation of SAT.
The reason for this is that no information from the
neighbor cells is used in the selection process of SAT,
although these cells are responsible for the identification
of the mobile stations during the handoff procedure
by means of SAT.
By not taking this information into consideration when
allocating the SAT, difficulties will arise in
the process for identifying the mobile stations during
the handoff procedure.
